Back to the Drawing Board from Issue #3

Here it is, the full strip from the just released issue #3 of COMICS NOW! I tried to capture the goofy Golden Age era of Superman with this strip.

If you look closely, you'll see a young Siegel and Shuster enjoying the festivities. My favorite part of the strip is the guy at the lower left.

Teaser Image From Comics Now! Magazine #3

A little taste of the strip from issue #3 of Comics Now! I tried to do a Golden Age Supes in this one, since the big blue guy turns 70 this year.

Rough Sketch for the Strip in Comics Now #2

In anticipation of the release of issue #2 of Comics Now! magazine tomorrow, I'm posting a scan of the initial sketch I did for the strip. I actually did the sketch for issue #1, but the gag was changed just before publication. Being the economical (read lazy) guy I am, I used the gag for issue #2. The cartoon was originally done with the expectation of a standard three-panel strip. I fleshed it out for the full-page format. I'll post the finished strip tomorrow.

Comics Now Issue #2

According to David Hedgecock at APE Entertainment, Issue #2 has been printed and delivered to the folks at Diamond. Diamond is expected to distribute the magazines the second or third week of March. I'm still working on my strip for issue #3. I'll post some roughs shortly, Stay Tuned!

Presto Change-oh!

Well, I'm shelving the gag I had for issue #3. After finding out that most of the content for #3 will be themed towards the 70th anniversary of Superman, so I figured I may as well do the same. I hope to resurrect the existing gag for issue #4. It should still be funny then . . . heh.

Comics Now #1: The Sketches and References

I got my comp copies of Comics Now #1 in the mail this weekend. After skimming through the issue once more, I thought I'd post a photo of all the references that I used and the individual drawings that came together for the final strip. I spread most the items out on my drawing board/light box.

Teaser Image From Comics Now! Magazine #2, Part 2

Since the Back to the Drawing Board strip has received positive feedback overall, I'll post a second teaser image for the strip from issue #2 of Comics Now!

Yeah, I know, still kinda vague. Don't worry your pretty little heads, it'll be a hoot.
I'm currently penciling the strip for issue #3. As soon I get something the slightest bit presentable, I'll make sure to post it here. Stay Tuned!

It is ALIVE! Comics Now! hits the shelves January 23rd!

It's official, COMICS NOW! #1 will be in comic shops on Wednesday, January 23rd. It was a long row to hoe, but it sounds like it will be all worth it. To celebrate, I'm going to post my rough sketch for the comic feature I submitted for issue #1. Here's the original sketch I sent to Bryan Deemer all those weeks ago.

I'll post the finished artwork for issue #1 sometime later this week. I originally submitted another gag idea, but at that time I just finished boxing some of my comics when I was struck with this gag from the clear blue. I'm a big fan of Mouseguard by David Petersen and Exterminators with art by Tony Moore. I thought, "What would happen if both of those worlds collided?" Hopefully, I captured one humorous possibility. The gag I originally submitted will be used in issue #2. Stay tuned!
